BMW speeder's worn tyres could have been 'carnage'

Oct 22, 2024

A BMW driver speeding at 110mph (177km/h) on worn tyres could have caused "carnage", police have warned.

The car was stopped on the A1 at Hatfield, in Hertfordshire on Monday night, after the driver overtook an unmarked police car.

Road police officers said on X that both the BMW's front tyres "were found to be dangerously worn".

"You can imagine the carnage if they failed at that speed," they added.

The driver was issued with a prohibition notice, banning the vehicle from being driven on a public road.

Police said the driver would also receive a court summons.
